Thursday June 22nd the CKF Construction Super Late Model Series went to Rockingham for race 5. Jake Watson came in as the hottest driver over the last 2 weeks winning both races and he would start the night off right with setting the fast time during qualifying with a 23.805. Tuker Minter would start on the outside of the front row and that due would take off and hide for the first stint of the race battling for the lead. Fireworks happened early as Brian Rogers Jr and Mike Holtsclaw would make contact early ending their night before the end of lap one. The battle for third was a hotly contested one as AJ Hamel, Jim McIntyre Jr, Justin MacDuff and Al Smith Jr would battle it out until the first and only caution would come out on lap 51 for the 24 of Shawn Cool. During the yellow a handful of drivers would come down pit road with various strategies as Tucker Minter and Rex Hoyle would stay out. On the restart Minter would do his best to hold of Hamel and Smith Jr, who took 4 tires during the yellow, until Hamel made the move off of turn 4. This allowed Smith Jr and new player at the front Erik Haag by and drive away gaping the field. The three would dice it up and Smith Jr made the final pass for the lead down the back stretch and go on to pick up his first career URL victory. Hamel would come home 2nd and Jake Watson rounded out the podium.
Next week we get back to short track racing with the Art’s Barber Shop 100 from Southern National Speedway!
