A few weeks ago Al Smith Jr caught up with a Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Year contender Jim McIntyre Jr. He pilots the number 06 Eddie’s Meat Market/Federated Auto Parts late model. Thank you for taking the time to chat with us Jim
JIM MCINTYRE JR: No problem, thanks for having me.
AL SMITH JR: Happy to have you. First off welcome to the Upstate Racing League! Why don’t we get to know you a little better. How did you become involved in racing in general and with us here at the URL?
JM: Well I became a fan of the sport growing up watching NASCAR races with my father. He loved it, so I guess it just got handed down. I stumbled onto iRacing while surfing around on YouTube about two years ago and got hooked. Did some more digging around and started to look for a league to join. I found the URL in the middle of last season. Was informed about the approval series and how to join and guess here we are.
AS: You ran the entire approval series and gained a lot of experience through out the summer months. How do you think the approval series has prepared you for the Les Enterprises MP Roy Inc Pro Late Model Series?
JM: Yeah the approval series helped me out a lot. With having no real race background I would struggle with how to find the fast lines at some of the tracks. Being able to practice with some of the top runners in the league was a great learning experience. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do in the Pro Series.
AS: Being your first season and being in the running for the Nein Shiza Autosports Rookie of the Year, what are your goals this season?
JM: Well I believe all of us rookies will be fighting for the Rookie of the Year award. I think there is about 9-10 of us so I guess the main goal is to place ahead of them. Which is not going to be an easy task, there are a lot of good drivers and teams in the URL. Personally I just want to make it through my first season. I’m still learning, and judging by the approval series races there are going to be some white knuckled races in the Pro series with the bigger field of cars. So I would be happy if I was in the top ten by the end of the series.
AS: Yes you are correct lots of talent in this years rookie field. Moving forward your main sponsor Eddie’s Meat Market has come on board and supporting the URL this season. Tell us about your sponsor and what we can expect at the “Throwback” race in Richmond for the Eddie’s Meat Market 100
JM: Eddie’s Meat Market is just north of Croghan, NY in a small place called Indian River, NY. It might be small, but the clientele is massive. I have been there for 14-15 years now, and we just keep getting more customers from all over. Famous for its Ring Bologna, Smoked Sausage, and various fresh cut meats. I guess it’s true what they say “You can’t beat, Eddie’s meat!” We were happy to join up with the URL and sponsor the Eddie’s Meat Market 100 at Richmond. It’s going to be a fun event where the drivers will be sporting a retro paint scheme of their choice. I believe you said that this will be the first time in a few series that Richmond will be on the schedule, so we are also excited to be apart of that. We also will be giving an Eddie’s Meat Market hat out to the winner of the race.
AS: That sounds amazing. We will have to make a trip for some of that famous meat. We can’t thank you enough for your support. Is there anything else you would like the public to know about you?
JM: No problem, glad to be apart of from what I can tell in the short time I have been apart of ….an amazing League! Uummm lets see….I like long walks on the beach, full moons……HAHA just kidding! I guess just would say keep a look out for the 06 Eddie’s Meat Market Chevrolet out on the track. Thank you to the fans, and sponsors that keep the URL running.
AS: Well you are a good addition to the field and look for strong runs from you and your team! Thank you for your time!
That is the conversation Al Smith Jr had with Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Year Contender Jim McIntyre Jr as he gets prepared to start the 2016-2017 Les Entreprises MP Roy Inc Pro Late Model Series which starts October 6th!
