The stars and cars of the Upstate Racing League Les Enterprises MP Roy Inc. Pro Late Model Series headed to the Langley Speedway for round two of five in the Chase, the NYDKS 175. Current high point man Nicklas Rasmussen would win the NHR Pole Award, and CJ LaVair would start along side him in row one.
The race would have a green look early, as points leader Nicklas Rasmussen would have control through the early portion and three time series champion Justin Fuller moved up to second quickly. Brandon Oddo and AJ Hamel would both move past CJ LaVair during the long green stretch and take over third and fourth, respectively.
Rasmussen would continue to dominate until a slide by the lapped car of Justin MacDuff would bottle the leaders up and hand Justin Fuller the lead. Oddo would also sneak by Rasmussen and Nick would find himself in an unfamiliar position on the night. The race would remain green past the halfway point until AJ Bunch went for a slide into the front stretch wall. On the exchange of pit stops Fuller would maintain his lead over Rasmussen and Oddo.
Contact on the ensuing restart would see Oddo going for a slide, which he would incredibly hang on to. Oddo would rebound quickly and move his way back into the top five after falling back to eighth. Fuller would maintain his lead over Rasmussen and AJ Hamel would move up into third. As the laps continued to tick off, Rasmussen would begin applying the pressure to Fuller for the lead.
Oddo would close in on Stefan Marinak for the fourth position and the battle would rage on. After many laps of trying Oddo would move up to fourth and set his sights on the top three. While that happened, Rasmussen still stalked Fuller and Hamel closed in to the two leaders. It was clear Ol’ Three Time wasn’t going to make it easy on the driver out of Denmark and a fierce fight for the win was shaping up.
Oddo would pass Hamel for third and continue his march back towards the top two. The top three would file out bumper-to-bumper with twenty laps to go and the battle was on. Oddo would make his move on Rasmussen and with fifteen to go it was down to a pair of champions to duel it out for the race win at Langley!
Fuller would do a great job of holding off Oddo, and Oddo would start to use the bumper as the checkered flag began to loom. Oddo would move Fuller with two to go and would lead the final two laps to win his fourth race of the season! Fuller would have to settle for second, followed by Rasmussen, Hamel, and Smith Jr. in the top five. Nicklas was able to hang onto to his points lead of eight points over Justin Fuller. Those two are followed by Oddo, Hamel (both minus nine points to Nick), and Brian Rogers Jr. (minus eighteen) in the Tents of Champlain Points Standings.
The Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Race Award went to James McIntyre Jr. and the HaagTV Hard Charger Award went to Shawn Cool (plus eight).
Next week, the URL storms into the Stafford Motor Speedway for the VTFantasyRacing.com 150. Only nine points separate the top four in the Chase! Coverage begins on LSRTV starting at 9:30 PM Thursday night. Stay tuned to the website and Facebook page for all news and updates regarding the league, and we will see you at the track!
