Thursday night, the Les Enterprises MP Roy Inc Upstate Racing League Pro Late Model Series made its way to the Oxford Plains Speedway for the Hanson’s Starter Shop 125. Heading into action, there were two races remaining for drivers to lock themselves into the chase with wins and bonus points still up for grabs.
Brandon Oddo would set a new track record and claim the NHR Pole Award with Paul Fugate starting beside him on row one. Fugate would fall back in the early part of the race, as it was clear that the inside line was the place to be on restarts. There were two big crashes in this race with the first one happening on lap three. Contact between Erik Haag, Shawn Cool, and Justin Fuller would send Haag spinning and cause a pileup. Cars collected included AJ Bunch, Cale Frennier and Jay Dee Callahan. On the restart, Nicklas Rasmussen would get the best of AJ Hamel as he was pinned up in the dreaded high line.
From there, it was an Oddo vs. Rasmussen showdown for over a hundred laps. One of the few cars to do so, Nicklas Rasmussen was able to maintain his second place running position on multiple restarts by running the high side. Many times, Nick would be able to peek a nose on Oddo but could never make a move as Oddo was too strong and consistent. CJ LaVair would close in on the two leaders late but to no avail as Brandon Oddo picked up his second points paying victory of the season in dominating fashion by leading every lap! Rasmussen was second, followed by LaVair in third, Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Race and HaagTV Hard Charger Award Winner Jason Stehney in fourth, and Brian Rogers Jr. in fifth.
Nicklas Rasmussen stretches his streak of top tens to ten to start the season, and also stretches his points lead in the Tents of Champlain Points Standings to fourteen over Justin Fuller. The top nine drivers have locked themselves into the Chase which means only three sports remain. Heading into the regular season finale at Southern National, those three spots are currently held by AJ Bunch (+26), Justin MacDuff (+18), and John Ada (+6). The first car out is currently Jay Dee Callahan (-6), who is followed by Erik Haag (-9), Alex Orians (-13), James McIntyre Jr. (-17), and Eric Spencer (-29) as the only drivers left with a mathematical chance to move into the Chase next week.
Next week, the URL heads to the Southern National Motorsports Park for the Kingsport Tire and Auto Care Center 125. Coverage begins at 9:30 PM EST on LSRTV. Be sure to stay tuned to the website and Facebook page for all news and updates regarding the league!
