The URL Rookie Approval Series rolled into the South Boston Speedway for race 6 of 8 in the Approval Series, the Brian Rogers Motorsports 105. Brandon Wilkinson set quick time and would lead the beginning third of the race until a spin by Matt Smith would set up the first restart of the race.
On the ensuing restart, AJ Bunch would throw it up to the top side and power to the race lead. Bunch would lead until the third caution flag came out. At that point Bruce Perry, Greg Netherwood, Rodney Haack and Justin MacDuff would stay out to lead the field back to the green and would try to hold off the cars with fresh rubber. The order would stay the same until an incident involving Brandon Wilkinson and Brian Rogers Jr would collect many cars, including that of previous leader AJ Bunch.
All of the cars on older tires would pit, besides Bruce Perry, leaving him with the lead. Perry would lead until the field was slowed again and on the restart AJ Hamel would take the lead. Seeking his first career win in the URL, Hamel would fight to hang on but would not succeed as Greg Netherwood would use his fresher tires to take the lead and scoot away for the win. The top five were: Greg Netherwood, AJ Hamel, AL Smith Jr, Justin MacDuff and Brandon Wilkinson. Al Smith Jr would take over the points lead by a mere six points over Trevor Williams with AJ Hamel in third only seven points back.
Next week the URL heads to the Southern National Motorsports Park for the CKF Construction 125 as the penultimate race in the battle for the championship!
