The Upstate Racing League rolled into the Concord Speedway last night for the VT Fantasy Racing 100. Justin Fuller led the field to the green and would control the first run of the race until bad luck would strike. Under the first caution period, Fuller was involved in an accident with a car who was involved in the initial crash. After going to the pits for repairs, Fuller would retire from the race due to engine damage.
The race stayed green for a bit as newcomers Carson Hocevar and Jimmy Mullis would pace the field. A lap 88 incident between the number 12 of Brian Rogers Jr and the 14 of Justin MacDuff would slow the field again and lead to some strategy plays by a few drivers. League owner and last week’s winner Al Smith Jr would stay out along with Rodney Haack to lead the field back to green. Their old tires were no match for the drivers with fresh rubber as Mullis was able to navigate the traffic and take home his first checkered flag in the URL!
Mullis won the VT Fantasy Racing 100, followed by Dylan Gaudette in 2nd, Carson Hocevar in 3rd, points leader Trevor Williams in 4th, and Al Smith Jr in 5th.
The URL Approval Series Top 5 in points looks like this after 3 of the 8 races: 1. Trevor Williams (121), 2. Al Smith Jr (-3), 3. Justin Fuller (-12), 4. Dylan Gaudette (-17), and 5. Justin MacDuff (-18). Next week the series heads to the Lucas Oil Raceway for 75 laps of fast paced action! As always, stay tuned to Facebook for news and updates regarding the league!
