Week two for the CKF Construction Super Late Model Series headed west to Irwindale Speedway. 19 drivers signed in and during qualifying it was Tucker Minter who would set fast time with a time of 18.007 seconds. Al Smith Jr would put his ride on the outside pole. They would lead the field to the green where Minter would grab the lead. Third place starter would work over Smith Jr on lap 4 and look to chase down Minter. Lots of action in the back early as the race would go green for the first 70 laps. The caution would come out for the driver of the BG Products number 22 of Mike Holtslaw would go flipping in turn 1. Holtsclaw would end up 17th on the field. During the caution a handful of drivers decided to stay out when Minter pitted for 4 fresh Hoosiers. On the restart it was Smith Jr in control but it only took 5 laps for the fresher tires to prevail as Minter and Kyle Charpenteir moved 1st and 2nd. On lap 76 Shawn Cool and Smith Jr would have contact resulting in the 96 spinning to the infield. The yellow wouldn’t fly as the battle for the lead raged on. In the end it was Minter who #parkedit in victory lane to become the 2nd driver in URL super late model history to grace victory lane. Charpenteir would hold on for second and AJ Hamel would rally late for a third place finish. Next week the series heads south to Florida to the USA Speedway for a 100 lap main event.
URL will make history on Sunday for the first points paying event on dirt for the 360 winged sprints at Volusia Speedway.
