Twenty-six Pro Late Models headed to the Iowa Speedway Thursday night for the first race of the 2017 – 2018 Upstate Racing League White Knuckle Clothing Inc. Pro Late Model Series for the Cornfield Chaos 107. Matt Kocher won the Rumar Vinyl Pole Award and Erik Haag qualified second to make up the front row!
The first caution of the race would see Alex Orians make contact with Jake Watson sending him spinning and would collect last year’s champion Nicklas Rasmussen along with the Mountain Dew machine of Brian Rogers Jr. Rasmussen would continue on but Rogers’ night would end early. Shawn Cool would assume the lead on the restart until Erik Haag would take it from him as Cool’s tires began to give up a bit. On another restart, Stefan Marinak would work his way into the top three and begin setting his sights on the lead. Marinak would eventually work his way into the lead and would maintain a steady gap over second place Haag until pit stops around lap 65.
Alex Orians would elect to not pit and would be the leader on the lap 71 restart but Marinak and the rest of the field made quick work of him. The 333 of Kyle Charpenteir would work his way into the fray at the front of the field after contact between the Green Mountain Madman AJ Hamel and Matt Kocher would eliminate a few of the front runners and set up a late race dash to the finish.
Charpenteir would pressure Marinak late, but couldn’t make anything work as Stefan Marinak would out-duel him on a Green-White-Checkered finish to pick up a big win to start the season! Charpenteir came home in second and he leads the Brian Rogers Motorsports Slamming the Dew Rookie of the Year Standings after the first race! Shawn Cool finished third, followed by the Team Bushfink Racing Hard Charger award winner Brian Long, and Dylan Prostler in the top five!
