The Upstate Racing League invaded the New Smyrna Speedway for another Approval Race. It was a slim field but the racing didn’t lack. Al Smith Jr sat on the pole with a time of 18.378 second and AJ Bunch would start outside the front row. When the green flag flew it was Bunch jumping out to the early lead. On lap 12 it was Brian Rogers taking the lead where he would lead until lap 51 when Smith Jr would get loose and bring out the only yellow of the night. The restart would come on lap 57 where Bunch won the race off pit road. On lap 69 MacDuff would get a look inside Bunch and would take the lead. Rogers would follow through and would run second hounding the back of bumper of MacDuff. Even with all the pressure MacDuff would go on to pick up the win with Rogers finishing second followed by Smith Jr and Guillaume Fortin and James McIntyre Jr rounding out the top 5. In a post race interview MacDuff said, “We really needed this win. It is a great confidence booster for me and the team.” We also caught up with Rogers who said “we really wanted to win but we weren’t going to wreck him for the win.
The league plans on racing 2 more approval races through August and then the Les Enterprises MP Roy Inc Pro Late Model Series will open up registration the first of September.
