Last week the URL White Knuckle Clothing Inc. Pro Late Model Series headed to the Southern National Motorsports Park for the middle race of the Chase for the championship. Matt Kocher entered the night as the leader of the Art’s Barber Shop Points Standings and grabbed the Rumar Vinyl Creations Speed Demon Pole Award. Shawn Cool started on the outside of row number one.
Kocher would lead the early stages of the race until Jake Watson would advance from his third starting spot to take the lead. Kocher would settle into second with his rival for the championship, Stefan Marinak hot on his heels. Marinak would eventually get by Kocher and set his sights on leader Jake Watson as the laps ticked into the thirties. Watson would fend off Marinak until the fifty eighth circuit, when Marinak would slide by on the inside with Kocher in tow.
Marinak would lead until the eighty eighth lap, when pole sitter Matt Kocher would retake the lead. The first of two yellows would fly on lap 101 when Jay Dubuque cut across the nose of the Green Mountain Madman AJ Hamel. This would allow the lead lap cars to come down and take tires, but strategy was employed by Shawn Cool and Nicklas Rasmussen who elected to stay out. Cool would assume the lead on the restart with Rasmussen to his inside.
It wasn’t long before the fresh tires of Matt Kocher and Stefan Marinak would fly on by as Cool and Rasmussen fell into the clutches of the rest of the field. While they ran side by side with a log jam behind them, Kocher and Marinak battled side by side for the lead! The two exchanged cross overs and slide jobs but never made contact. The field would be bunched back up again however when the second yellow flew with 27 laps to go.
Kocher would get a good jump on the ensuing restart and never look back, picking up his series high seventh win of the season! Marinak would have to settle for second, followed by Al Smith Jr. in third, Shawn Cool in fourth, and Rex Hoyle in the fifth spot. Kocher also picked up the Joker’s eSports Squeaky Clean Driver of the Race Award. Nicklas Rasmuseen was the Team Bushfink Racing Hard Charger Award Winner by moving from 13th to 6th!
