Round three of the Upstate Racing League White Knuckle Clothing Inc. Pro Late Model Series brought the drivers and fans to the South Boston Speedway in Virginia for the Joker’s eSports 150. Nicklas Rasmussen would win the Rumar Vinyl Speed Demon Pole Award for the second straight week and Shawn Cool would start to his outside.
Rasmussen would get the jump and lead the initial laps of the race. The first yellow would fly on lap nine as the 02 of Treven Valderrama would make contact with another car and spin. On the restart, Rasmussen would hang on to the number one spot as the drivers began running higher and higher on the race track as it took more rubber. Jake Watson would begin to apply pressure around lap twenty and would take the lead. Over the next two cautions Watson would maintain his advantage over the field and Stafford’s winner Matt Kocher would work his away around Nicklas and into the runner up spot.
The race would take on a green flag look as Watson continued to lead narrowly over Kocher until just past the halfway mark. Kocher would eventually take the lead but only temporarily as contact between Shawn Cool and Guillaume Fortin would bring out the yellow and allow drivers to choose whether or not to use their four allotted tires. Everybody on the lead lap would take four tires besides the 99 Team Bushfink Racing entry of Erik Haag and the 08 of Brian Long who both took just two tires. Chaos ensued on the restart, and Watson regained the lead as the field stacked up.
The closing thirty laps of the race saw Watson and Kocher battle for the second time on the evening. The end result would be the same, as Kocher would work Watson over and power his machine to a second straight victory! Watson would finish 1.2 seconds behind in second place, followed by Rasmussen, Stefan Marinak who rebounded from an early spin, and Kyle Charpenteir in the top five. Matt Kocher was the Brian Rogers Motorsports Slammin’ the Dew Rookie of the Race and Jim McIntyre Jr. was the Team Bushfink Racing Hard Charger (plus ten). The Joker eSports Squeaky Clean Driver Award goes to Nicklas Rasmussen (0 incidents).
After three races, Stefan Marinak leads the Art’s Barber Shop Points Standings by a narrow two points over Matt Kocher. Defending champion Nicklas Rasmussen sits in third, twelve points back. The final Chase transfer spot currently belongs to Brian Long who is tied with Rex Hoyle, but holds the tie breaker due to more top five finishes. Race winner Matt Kocher leads the Brian Rogers Motorsports Slammin’ the Dew Rookie of the Year Standings by six points over Jake Watson.
Next week, the series remains in Virginia for the OnPitRoad.com 100. Coverage begins on LSRTV beginning at 9:30 PM EST!
