Last Thursday, the Coach’s Corner Pro Late Model Series rolled into the Lanier Speedway for the Mighty Midget 161, race four on the series schedule. Bryan Hacker would set the Rumar Vinyl Creations Quick Time on the evening, with “The Bossman” Al Smith Jr. starting to his outside!
On the initial start, Hacker would jump out to the early lead with Al Smith Jr. hot on his heels. Brian Rogers Motorsports Rookie of the Year contender Blake Near would settle into the third position, as defending series champion Matt Kocher would begin his march for a second win and move past Jake Watson for fourth. The field would be slowed for the first time on lap 19 when the 1x machine driven by Jeremy Carpenter would make contact with John Mignacca, sending him around.
On the ensuing restart, Hacker would get a great jump as Matt Kocher and Al Smith Jr. would battle for the runner-up position. Smith Jr. would hold Kocher off on the outside, and Jake Watson would begin to battle with Kocher for the third position. Kocher would fend off Watson and utilize the high side to move around Smith Jr., bringing Watson with him as they would move into second and third, respectively.
As the race worked towards lap 60, Kocher made his presence known as he would take the lead away from Hacker and begin to pull away. Kocher would continue to lead and would face challenges from Jake Watson who was able to get by Hacker for position number two as the race neared the halfway point. The race would be slowed a few more times throughout the remainder of the event, however it would not slow Kocher down! Kocher would fend off challenges from Watson, Brian Rogers Motorsports Rookie of the Race and ROTY Points Leader Kris Stump, and Shawn Cool late to pick up his second victory of the season in dominating fashion!
Shawn Cool would finish in second, followed by Justin MacDuff, Jake Watson, and Kris Stump in the top five. With his win, Kocher now leads Justin MacDuff by 12 points in the Art’s Barber Shop Points Standings. Kocher was the Beth’s Colorful Creations Clean Driver of the Race and Doug Wysocki was the Hard Charger (26th to 11th). Next week the series heads to the Five Flags Speedway for the Snowflake 100! Coverage begins at 9 PM EST on MaxSpeedTV, with drivers decorating their cars for the holidays!
