Thursday night, the Upstate Racing League Les Enterprises MP Roy Inc Pro Late Model Series rolled into the Martinsville Speedway for race nine of the 2016-2017 Series: the Kingsport Tire and Auto Center 125. Fresh off of a win at South Boston last week, Brandon Oddo would start from the NHR Pole with Rex Hoyle flanking him to his outside. Would Oddo make it two in a row?
VTFantasyRacing.com Race Recap:
When the green flag flew, Oddo jumped out to a quick lead as Shawn Cool would get past Rex Hoyle to move himself into the runner up spot. A point of interest worth noting: Ol’ Three Time Justin Fuller would miss driver intros and have to start from the tail end of the field after qualifying in the fifth position. The first caution would fly on lap thirty-one, which would see Alex Orians going for a spin collecting John Ada essentially ending both driver’s nights.
Oddo would continue to lead over Cool as Charlie Ryan would move up to the third position and begin pressuring Cool for second as we closed in on half way. A caution with seventy-five laps to go would set the stage for strategy to come into play. Brian Rogers Jr. would stay on the track as the leaders would come down pit road for fuel and tires. Seven other cars would stay out with Brian, and problems under the caution for the dominant car up to this point would eliminate Brandon Oddo from contention.
The race would remain green for the rest of the way as Rogers would lead until his tank would run dry. The strategy back fired as the caution some drivers needed never came so Rogers, CJ LaVair, Erik Haag, and Eric Spencer among others would have to pit under green flag conditions. When all was said and done, it would be a four car battle at the front with Charlie Ryan leading, followed by Fuller, Cool, and Rasmussen. Contact between Ryan and Fuller would give Fuller the lead and allow Cool and Rasmussen to move into second and third respectively. Shawn Cool would try everything he could to get to Fuller, but to no avail as Ol’ Three Time would pick up his fourth win in nine attempts this season and make a statement coming from last all the way to the win! Fuller was followed by Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Race Award winner Shawn Cool in second, Nicklas Rasmussen in third, Al Smith Jr. in fourth, and HAAG TV Hard Charger Award winner AJ Bunch in fifth (twenty-fifth to fifth).
Nicklas Rasmussen is still the points leader in the Tents of Champlain Points Standings. He leads by five points over second place Justin Fuller. Current leader in the Nein Shiza Autosport Rookie of the Year Standings Jason Stehney is in third followed by Brandon Oddo and AJ Hamel in the top five. In regards to the Chase bubble, John Ada is currently twelfth and has a twelve point cushion over thirteenth place Jay Dee Callahan for the final Chase spot. Just two races left before we set the field for the Chase!
